Rocky Mountain Elk - oil on canvas

This is the beginning of a new painting. 4ft x 4ft, oil on canvas. This Elk has a huge set of antlers. They're going to look quite dramatic against the backdrop of the snow covered Colorado Rockies.

Once a year, Shattemuc Yacht Club in Ossining, New York hosts a Plein Air painting event to raise money for their youth sailing program. They invite 35 local artists to arrive at the Shattemuc Yacht Marina at 7am and begin a fresh painting. Each artist submits a finished painting by 3pm and paintings go to live auction at 5pm the same day. It's a wonderful, lively event where the pressure is on to paint something new and fresh. This was my painting for today, titled 'Shattemuc Rowboat', 16x20, oil on Belgian linen.
